The bind

After following what I think our society tells us is the path to happiness with a nice family, a job, friends, I found myself occasionally really happy but mostly stressed busy and juggling. I have a lot which I can enjoy and I am blessed with but I have a lot to do so the time to enjoy these things is fleeting.

Lockdown was interesting. It shifted the balance, now there were less things to go to, less to do but more to worry about. However for most of us it freed the bind. The huge worries of illness and job security were ever present but so was this space, this quiet and it felt like the world stared at that new space and thought yep that’s nice.

COVID certainly wasn’t a route to happiness but the space brings expansion, widening, time to sit and stop and space to stretch and explore. Ironically for a lot of people lockdown loosened the bind we were in and introduced a new player, freedom.

So now here we are, not locked down but not quite free either. Bound still but having had a taste of freedom.

At the bottom of our garden is a wild space with the lockdown pond, long grass, flowers, fruit trees and so so much life. You loosen the ties of the clipped lawn, the square flower beds, the gaudy flowers and what you’re left with is unrestrained life. It is simple; leave it don’t push it or force it to be something it’s not, don’t weed it or treat it, don’t rush it and life will come in all its chaotic varied stunningly beautiful weird and wonderful forms.

Free the binds and life will follow.
