Winter is Wonderful (mostly)

I hate being cold and I am cold a lot lately I also really dislike the dry stale heat that central heating provides so in the past winter has been a grumpy season for me. I also find myself getting very impatient. I either want to hibernate or get going with planting all of the seeds that  I just had to buy in the January sale (50% off)! I learnt a lot last year though and me, the man and the kids have been embracing the winter time.

The air is clear and clean and fresh and on sunny days every drop of light and warmth is there to be sucked in and savoured. We have been taking many more walks than we usually would in January and the extra light and fresh air has been a treat.

Though the days can be beautiful winter nights are magical. The trees form their skeletal silhouettes against the deep orange skies before the light disappears and leaves the cold sharp darkness. We have been lighting a fire each evening and keeping the heating low. Sitting watching the fire glow is warming in every sense of the word. When the kids are asleep and I have some time for myself l stare out in to the darkness and my eyes begin to play tricks on me as I see tiny specs of light dancing in the garden and small traces of life dancing through the trees.

So for the first year ever I can say that I am (mostly) not grumpy and I love winter.   A time to sit, a time to stop and a time to dream.
