Woods – camp building

We are on holiday in lovely East Sussex. Today is Sunday, a perfect day for being a bit wild! We have met horses spotted buzzards but the highlight was definitely exploring the woodland opposite our house.

This wood was clearly managed up until a few years ago but now there is moss over the stone entrance and more evidence of badgers than humans. For BP a walk in the woods is the perfect baby sensory, in her sling she can snuggle with me while feeling the cool leaves and tough bark and watching the best light show of all as the sun darts between the leaves.

For TP on the other hand this is a new world. A slightly wilder one where hitting things with stinks is something everyone does and every step brings a new climbing frame and balancing pole. Today though we discovered camp making! TP and Dad were on stick collection. TP found a rotting tree and collected many excellent pieces to start our camp. Soon he was breaking them, carrying them and balancing them like a real woodsman. The end result was rather impressive, even if I do say so myself. Next time we will make a larger one suitable to eat our lunch in.

It appears it only takes a few minutes in the woods to tap in to our wild side!
